Industrial eCommerce
E-commece Web Site and Brand Identity

The Challenge
This organization needed a robust site to accommodate high volume buying and selling of new and used industrial equipment. In addition, the site required the flexibility to handle the changing user needs as well as evolving product listings. A common challenge with listing machine parts is determining their category. Although it may possess a part number, the item may not get the exposure it needs unless it is categorized under several subjects. After all, a part can be useful in a variety of applications.

Since other marketing collateral did not exist, much of the company brand was
developed through the web site. Design options were critical in this process.

Over 3 million new and used machines and tools are traded on the Industrial site.

The Process
After identifying the desired user's path, a wire frame prototype of the site allows us to study the entire buy and sell process. Having a working site in place with the absence of design also allows us to explore alternatives to increasing the site's performance. To maximize the acuracy of search results, items are listed in several relevant categories. Once a search is initiated, all options containing any characteristic required is described and shown. The more information you provide, the more accurate the result. However, with this engine even minimal knowledge of the item will produce desired results.

Search results allowed users to
quickly find and view items that
fell within their parameters.

Prototypes with undesigned interfaces were built to examine the site functionality.
They are also an opportunity to find solutions increasing site performance.

The Solution
The much anticipated tool marketplace allowed users to quickly investigate, buy and sell machinery. Over 3 million new and used machinery and tools are traded on the Industrial site with numbers steadily increasing. A customer support telephone number was added to provide added services to users needing more assistance. The addition of this feature also generated feedback leading to site enhancements and customer loyalty.

Equipped with an efficient, streamlined site, Industrial eCommerce finds themselves years ahead of the competition. As their volume increases and customer awareness heightens, we continue to see the site as the leader specializing only in new and used machinery.
