Workscape
User Interface and Product Design
|
|

|
The Challenge
Workscape asked for our assistance to develop a product
interface. It was a program that allowed employees to
purchase computer items through their employer based
on points accumulated at their position. The program
was to be first introduced to analysts and prospective
clients. Not only was this presentation important, but
it was an opportunity to make decisions on a product
that could determine the course of future Workscape programs.

|
The
interface was designed to be inviting and easy to use. White
space
and an easy to follow process, enabled the program to be
unintimidating and
simple to use. |
 |
The
Process
A thorough understanding of the purchasing process was critical
prior to initiating design. In addition, Fathom programmers
investigated integrating the employee point system into the
purchasing program. Since employees may not know their available
points, systems were created to address this issue. Once
these items were resolved, we catalogued available items
and assigned them values. |
 |
| A screen touch pad was designed and programmed for
added convenience to users at kiosks. |
|
The process
was simple: an employee would log onto the program, identify
themselves, then acknowledge their available points. Purchasing
would then begin. At the end of the program, an employee
would determine how to distribute their remaining point balance
and a confirmation would be displayed. |
 |
|
| After
shopping at the company store, employees are then given options
on how to spend their balance: buying additional supplies,
donating to the United Way or applying the remainder to their
next paycheck. |
| Users were addressed by name then presented with a
budget based on an HR point system. |
|
The Solution
The entire program was met with great anticipation and assisted
in ensuring a successful product launch sales effort. It's
success inspired further development and paved the way
for future products. The intuitive process and interface
allowed users to quickly understand the employee computer
program accurately achieve desired results in short timeframes.
In addition to being highly intuitive, the program was
browser compatible and accessible from all desktops - at
work and at home. |
