|
The Challenge
Panamax is the country's pre-eminent manufacturer of electronic
and electrical surge protection products. They are recognized
for their highest quality materials, technologies and
innovative Lifetime Warranty on all products. They came
to Fathom to develop packaging consistent with their
product and vision. Although Panamax was developing five
new product lines, each with seven versions, only one
was ready for sale, PowerMax 8.
In order to create a successful
packaging solution, we would need to address not only
the seven products in PowerMax,
but also the other 4 product lines containing approximately
28 other units.

|
|
The Process
After taking note of the 35 products to be addressed in
this package design, the Fathom team developed a matrix.
It considered each product and addressed the features,
benefits, customer profile, and relationship to the rest
of the Panamax family. Knowing that color would be a
driving design element for this consumer, off the shelf
item, we assigned primary colors to each line, then secondary
colors to each product.

designed to educate consumers on benefits and features. |
The Solution
Consumer response to the new product was phenominal.
The improved surge protection units combined with
a new package design resulted in more retail stores
willing to place the product on their shelves, including
Home Depot and The Good Guys. Within the first 6
months of the product's release, Panamax experienced
increases in sales requiring production schedules
to be accellerated and volumes to be tripled.
The success of the packaging design became the format
for next generation products and is still in production
today.
